Together responsible for the city's future

The Nieuw Amsterdams Verbond aims to strengthen the quality of life in the city for everyone and promote cooperation and connection between different stakeholders. The plan for the association is inspired by historical and recent examples of involvement of wealthy Amsterdammers in the development of the city, such as the Concertgebouw,

Rijksmuseum and Prinsengracht Hospital, the DeLaMar theatre, the IMC Weekend School and the free software course Codam. With the celebration of Amsterdam's 750th anniversary in 2025 as its momentum, the Nieuw Amsterdams Verbond aims to bring together businesses, wealthy Amsterdammers, social initiatives, funds and the municipality to jointly contribute to a future-proof city.

The Nieuw Amsterdams Verbond is an independent association with Mayor Halsema as its patroness. Strengthening liveability for all, we do so through powerfulsupport community initiatives in the various neighbourhoods and hold round tablesorganise with these initiatives, businesses, concerned Amsterdammers and the municipality around specific themes.

• Unburdening of social initiatives, businesses and concerned Amsterdammers tothus making more money and in-kind support available for the major social tasks facing the city.
• Equivalent cooperation: Different parties, such as companies and initiatives, work together out of shared responsibility.
• Demand-driven approach: The needs of the social initiatives are central.
• Core values of the association are decisiveness, equality, trust and connection

• Creating a portfolio of initiatives with proven impact on the themes of health, education, equity and/or livelihood security.
• Organising roundtables to ensure knowledge exchange and cooperation.
• Making available an incentive budget, for smaller, new initiatives.
• Creating a platform where demand and supply of in-kind support are effectively linked.

The association will be launched on 31 March 2025 with the first 31 members. On the 750th anniversary,on 27 October 2025, the association will be handed over to the city as a lasting gift to all Amsterdammers. The aim is for the association to have at least 50 members and a team of around three people by then.
