We work with a powerful portfolio of social initiatives that make a direct impact on key issues in our society. Our focus is on health, education, equity, livelihood security and inclusion. By investing in these core areas, we create meaningful change where it is needed most. Together, these initiatives form a network that contributes to a stronger and more connected community.
We organise regular roundtables where knowledge and ideas come together. These meetings bring together various stakeholders to exchange experiences and explore new collaborations. Through these dialogues, we stimulate innovation and strengthen ties between different organisations and initiatives in the city. These roundtables often lead to surprising insights and valuable new partnerships.
We propose a incentive budget available for new and smaller initiatives. This budget is intended to support promising initiatives in the start-up phase or help smaller initiatives grow. Besides financial support, we also offer advice to make these initiatives successful. We look for initiatives that align with our core themes and show potential for sustainable impact.
Later this year, we will launch a digital platform exclusively for our members, bringing together supply and demand from the city. This member platform will serve as a central hub where connected Amsterdammers, organisations and initiatives can find each other. It connects members seeking help with the right support, and makes it easier for them to work together. The platform will help make all connected social initiatives more visible and accessible within our membership community.
Location and times to follow
The New Amsterdam Alliance is an independent association committed to a liveable city for all. The Alliance brings together social initiatives, companies, funds, involved Amsterdammers and the municipality to work together on solutions to urgent urban issues. Based on shared ownership and equality, members strengthen each other and build a resilient, inclusive and future-oriented Amsterdam.
Portfolio of initiatives
The New Amsterdam Alliance is building a portfolio of 10 to 25 proven social initiatives that make an impact on themes such as health, education, equity, livelihood security and inclusion.
Roundtables
The New Amsterdam Alliance organises thematic roundtables where social initiatives, businesses, concerned Amsterdammers, funds and the municipality share knowledge on specific themes and work together on concrete solutions.
Incentive budget
An incentive budget is available for smaller or new initiatives with potential, so that experimentation and innovation are also given space.
Member environment
The NAV provides an online platform for members where supply and demand from the city come together - from knowledge and resources to collaboration.
During the exploration for the NAV revealed a great need to work together to strengthen the city's liveability. To put our shoulders to the wheel together. An association makes this possible because all members are equal and each contributes their own knowledge and experience.
Amsterdam has several networking organisations including amsterdam&partners and Amsterdam Economic Board. The New Amsterdam Alliance works together with both these organisations. The alliance focuses on the city's social tasks and is the only platform where social initiatives, wealthy Amsterdammers, businesses, the municipality and funds work together to make the city liveable for everyone.
No, the Nieuw Amsterdams Verbond was born out of the need of businesses and concerned Amsterdammers to make a greater contribution to the city. The development of the New Amsterdam Alliance did receive (partial) funding from the municipality in the initial period. Since 1 February 2024, quartermaster Nina Tellegen has been working on a exploration, a action plan and covenant development. This phase was financed by the municipality. Since 1 November 2024, Rabobank, Booking.com, the municipality and a wealthy Amsterdammer have invested in the set-up of the New Amsterdam Covenant.
After 27 October 2025, the Nieuw Amsterdams Verbond will have a Managing Director and a Supervisory Board consisting of 3 - 5 people and a small team. Supervisory Board membership is unpaid and is for a period of four years, with the possibility of renewal for another four years. The SB supervises the director-director, who is accountable to the General Assembly. All members have a vote at the annual ALV, which is always combined with a substantive programme to increase member involvement.
In the statutes The tasks and responsibilities of all bodies are laid down in the Charter. The starting point here is to shape the association in such a way that the managing director and the supervisory board can lead the association in a businesslike and professional manner.
Until 27 October 2025, the quartermaster and the director of Stichting Amsterdam 750 (1 day a week), supplemented by a few hours from a communications officer and an office manager, will form the association's team. The first SB will be installed during April.
The mayor is patron of the association and also its namesake. She has already called for other forms of cooperation in the city in 2023. 'What the business climate needs most now is a connected city where differences in prosperity and well-being between people are reduced. A new Amsterdam Covenant! (...) An alliance where success is not just the growth of the economy, but the reduction of poverty, the reduction of inequality and finding solutions together to the big problems of our time. A city that is not only smart, but also wise. (...) Together we are stronger, in genuine interest and respect for each other, in togetherness and in connectedness'. State of the City speech 23 May 2023.
The mayor is closely involved in the New Amsterdam Association as an ambassador. Although she has no formal role within the association, her involvement is of great value. She supports the mission of the Alliance and regularly attends meetings and events.
